This seminar series focuses on scholarly support and development. It offers a unique space for Black African and Caribbean students to come together, present their research, receive feedback, and engage in discussions that support their academic journey.
The group was originally created in 2018 by Dr. William Ackah, Dr. Robert Beckford, and Dr. Gabriella Beckles-Raymond, with the aim of providing crucial academic support to Black postgraduate students. Today, the series is facilitated by Dr. William Ackah and Dr. Hanna Akalu
, who continue to build on this foundation.
About the Seminar Series
The ADPSS is open to students working on Masters dissertation and PhD research, offering participants a supportive environment to present their research ideas, engage in group discussions, and build peer support. These seminars will provide expert-led sessions on how to successfully complete a PhD, helping students navigate the process with confidence. Sessions are held online and open to postgraduate taught (Masters) and postgraduate research students. Whether you are a potential PhD student, a current student, or someone who needs support in your academic journey, these seminars will offer you the tools and connections to succeed.
As part of the seminar series, students are encouraged to share their research with the group. Every other month features student presentations, offering participants the opportunity to showcase their work, receive feedback, and engage with their peers. This collaborative and supportive environment allows for constructive discussions that will help refine your ideas and advance your research.
